Prior Written Notice (PWN)

Do I get a PWN if I request something and the school says no?

Reviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Long, Ph.D. — Director of Special Education, 32 years in public schools.

Yes. A refusal is just as much a trigger for PWN as a proposal. If you ask for an evaluation, additional services, or a change to placement and the school says no, they're required to explain that refusal to you in writing.
