How do I know whether my child is making meaningful progress?

Reviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Long, Ph.D. — Director of Special Education, 32 years in public schools.

Look at the data, not just a general statement that your child is "doing well." Ask:

  • What was the starting point?
  • What is the current performance?
  • What does the goal measure?
  • How often is data collected?
  • Is the student on track to meet the goal?
  • What happens if progress is not occurring?
