Your Rights: Evaluations & the IEP Process

How often is my child re-evaluated once they have an IEP?

Reviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Long, Ph.D. — Director of Special Education, 32 years in public schools.

IDEA requires a reevaluation at least every three years, unless the school and parent agree it isn't necessary. Reevaluations generally can't happen more than once a year unless both the school and parent agree otherwise.
