When the School Says No

What if the school refuses an evaluation?

Reviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Long, Ph.D. — Director of Special Education, 32 years in public schools.

Ask the school to explain its decision and the information supporting it. If the school refuses to evaluate when you have requested an evaluation, IDEA's procedural safeguards may provide options for addressing that disagreement.

Put your request and concerns in writing and keep the documentation.
