Preparing for an IEP Meeting

What should I include in my parent input?

Reviewed by Dr. Elizabeth Long, Ph.D. — Director of Special Education, 32 years in public schools.

Share what the school may not see every day:

  • Your child's strengths and interests
  • What you see at home
  • Current concerns
  • Changes since the last IEP
  • What is working
  • What is not working
  • Outside evaluations or information
  • Your child's priorities and needs
  • Questions you want the team to consider

If the school does not provide a parent-input form, you can create your own and provide it to the case manager before the meeting.
